State Chairperson , Assam
Nellie Ahmed, a visionary leader, made her foray into entrepreneurship, till then a male-dominated arena in Northeast India, with the inception of Maria Montessori House of Children in 1988. The school graduated into a senior secondary school and presently has a strength of 3000 students and over a hundred faculty members with high-end computer and science labs, design room, a well-stocked library, playground, and an open auditorium besides other advanced facilities. But most importantly, the vision of ‘Learning Beyond the Classroom and Nature as our Classroom’ with emphasis on experiential learning and sustainability, is what makes the school stand unique among all the educational enterprises in the region. This vision has led her to see the world and her role as a social entrepreneur from a different perspective. Mrs. Ahmed has observed the power of an enterprise in its contribution to society, its communities, the people, and places, which was realised, in course or exposure and experience
